I created “we will not be silenced” based on the labels and the norms that have been set on women for years. I wanted to focus on women’s voices and the suppression that we continue to face. Society has made it so difficult for women to feel comfortable enough to talk about their experiences, especially negative ones. Sexual assault, abuse, and harassment are all of the harsh realities women have to face but are oftentimes too scared to talk about. Patriarchy also says that men have the right to tell women what they can and cannot do with their bodies, for example, abortions. Women should be able to freely make any choice about their bodies and have no restrictions when it comes to what they decide to do, at the end of the day our choices are not affecting anyone but ourselves. We should be able to make the decision and not have people’s hands or minds being able to dictate our lives. As we all know, women’s voices are crucial in promoting equality and bringing attention to gender inequalities. Women who seek equal chances not only better themselves but also open the door to a society that is more just. Every woman has a voice that can be translated into acts that improve the world. They are entitled to a hearing! Giving them access to education and equal opportunities will empower them as women and enable them to play a constructive role in building a society that is fair, just, and forward-thinking, rather than suppressive and ignorant.
