Women In Palestine

There is an extremely long history of women being treated unfairly in Palestine due to the rooted sexism within the country. Generations of Palestinian women have had to suffer through society, only perceiving them for what their bodies can be good for. They suffer from the aftermath of colonization and the historical systematic sexism. What I mean by this is that women should be mothers; they need to bear the children, they need to stay at home, and they need to tend to not only their children’s needs but the needs of their husbands. Women in Palestine are also subjected to social violence, which stems from anti-feminism and sexism deeply rooted in society. However, the people of Palestine have become victims of genocide. Due to these horrific circumstances, Palestinian women have become an even larger group of victims. Their bodies are still being targeted, and they are being subjected to sexual, physical, and psychological torment. These women, as well as their children, have become a huge target in this genocide. Many mothers have lost their children, they die protecting their children, or they end up not being able to feed their families. The occupation has forced these groups of people out of their homes and has continued to attack their so-called areas of refuge. Women have much more to deal with than just trying to protect their families. They have menstrual cycles, pregnancies, and other health issues that could need consistent medical attention. This genocide has limited women’s access to reproductive healthcare and products. In some situations, they could lose their lives without medical help. All people are victims in this situation, but for the sake of this project, I wanted to turn my focus to the women in Palestine. There are a lot of needs that women have that often seem minor to society, but in unfortunate scenarios like this genocide, their lives can be negatively impacted. Free Palestine.1
