Your Words

In a world full of judgement, the words I often hear being a woman have become so over said that it has numbed me to any reaction. I hear ‘Bitch’, when I stand up for myself and set boundaries, or ‘Slut’ when I have the same fun a man might have. When I read cases of sexual assault and r*pe I scroll past comments saying, ‘She’s asking for it’ ‘Maybe if she wasn’t wearing that.’ How can this be pondered? What possesses individuals to hear a story of anyone taking advantage of those who are vulnerable and somehow still concluding the victim being at fault? ‘Are you on your period?’ Might be my favorite. I hear that one too often. I apologize for not being as perky and attractive as you would prefer, it MUST mean my cycle has started. Not that the entire process of that is excruciating and miserable or anything. We are just overdramatic. Then when those cycles are stopped because of pregnancy, I am sterilized instead of being able to have a choice. Its okay though, whatever’s easier on the doctor, right? Women are constantly picked on and put on some unrealistic & unreachable pedestal, but when we speak out against it and scream so loud, we are finally heard, then we are just too emotional. But it’s okay. Whatever fills all of your egos. Its okay for anyone to do anything except when you are a WOMAN.
