“2 Worlds, One Reality” is an art piece done by Marlene Cardenas, it was inspired by the contrasting societal viewpoints on women’s reproductive rights and the tension between the abortion debate. With the most recent presidential election and Donald Trump’s victory, the fight for women’s reproductive rights is at an all time high due to Trump’s plans to fully ban abortion. My art piece embodies the two possible outcomes for the future that we can have depending on the outcome of our fight for the protection of women’s rights and the ability to have the freedoms to make choices for their own bodies. On the left side of my art piece I drew all of the current existing symbols for reproductive rights, Planned Parenthood, IUD, Abortion pills, Doctor care, and condoms. On the right side I drew Donald Trump, a rosary to signify religion, a hanger to signify the dangerous alternatives to getting a safe medical abortion, and lastly I drew a gavel to represent the laws that are trying to get passed to take away women’s reproductive rights. The fight for women’s reproductive rights is not just a battle for legal access but an overall fight for women’s right to be able to make decisions on their own bodies and autonomy.
