Forced sterilization was a form of racism because it was used only on Latina women inthe 1960’s in California. That medical procedure was done in LA-USC, they used the force sterilization as a form of population control. Those types of medical policies originated from the federal government. With those medical practices they violated the human rights of all those women who were victims ofthose forced sterilization. In the documentary No mas bebes, the women who got sterilized without their consent still show the sadness and the psychological effects. When a country allows this type of procedure to control the population and also as aform of racism, the country is violating the human rights of all those women. This type of violence showed how far the government can go together with the medical field. In the present when we have more access to information this type of issues help us to know that we can advocate for our communities, cities and states. When we see this type of injustice against any particular group. When a government does not respect the reproductive health of women, we need to speak up and demand accountability from the politicians that represent us. I know that in those days the Latino community did not have a lot of representation inthe government. That is one of the many reasons the government got away with it for so many years. Also because some of the victims did not even know that the forced sterilization was done to them. When students have the opportunity to see the injustices that the government is capable of doing to Latina women, it opens our eyes to spread awareness.
