The Fear of Restrictions on Access to Abortion.

Why is life like this?
Is my body not mine?
One of my rights has been taken away, and I am worried for my life.
I wasn't worried before because I didn't believe it to actually occur.
Until the day came, on June 24th.
A right of women has been taken, and it has officially awakened the fear and anxiety that were not present prior, and that day made it even harder to just be a woman and even a daughter.
It created difficulties to be a women in the world today.
What other rights will be taken away?

This poem represents thoughts I experienced when I first heard the talks of the potential overturn of Roe v. Wade, but also when Roe v. Wade was officially overturned. I remember hearing all the constant talks in high school about its potential overturn and how no one thought it would actually happen because of how long it had been protecting women’s bodily autonomy. Once it was officially overturned, I was fearful and filled with anxiety. The worst possible scenarios had popped into my head because of it. I was speechless because of what this meant for me and the other women in the United States. Although I thought of all the women in my family, it also affected them. Those people who are so close to me have also had a right of theirs taken away, which was just heartbreaking. My mind was everywhere, but I questioned, if they can do this, what else can they take away and overturn? Being a woman in society was already difficult enough, which has made things even scarier. The lack of accessibility to abortion is now present within the United States, and it is tough to see. Seeing how states were slowly restricting abortion access was very upsetting because it was so difficult to see how so many women would not have access to abortion if it were needed or wanted. Women should be given the option because it should be a choice. It shouldn’t be mandated by law, it is a woman’s body that we are talking about here. A woman should continue to have the right to an abortion. It is important to acknowledge the way women feel and how it is affecting them. All the laws they could have changed, and they chose one that affects women. It is important that we continue to fight for women’s rights and that others fight for us as well.
