Do we have a choice
When it comes to what we do with our bodies
Do we have a choice
When it comes to Safe abortions For all
Do we have a choice
Full access to Women's Healthcare
Do we have a choice
To have children or to be Childless
Do we have a choice
To our own body When it comes to bodily autonomy
If we do not get a choice
Then who does
make that choice for us
Does the government
Does our community
Our own family
Who chooses us
If we cannot do it for ourselves
And if we really have a choice
To figure out what happens to our bodies in this world
Why are we still fighting for it
I chose to write a poem for my final project because I’ve always loved the process of creative writing and what is better for the creative process than the language of words and expression through their meaning. I decided to pick a topic that is very accurate to today’s times. When we’re fighting for a right as women to keep our bodily autonomy alive and well, not just for safe, accessible abortions to anybody who deserves it and needs it. Because Women’s Healthcare is not just about abortions and getting rid of babies, it is so much bigger than that. And no one is getting rid of anybody’s child. A woman’s right is to have an abortion and access to a safe, sterile environment, so for whatever Medical or mental reason that she cannot carry a child, she should have it. Many medical experts have stated that access to abortions is Women’s Healthcare and nobody should take it away from them, which is true, but Women’s Healthcare is more than just abortions. If needed, it is getting access to your Reproductive Rights. It’s getting access to doctors who specialize in Women’s Healthcare. Especially if you’re a woman of color, most women of color have a high chance of something going wrong with them in their pregnancy because they’re not treated accurately by their providers, so once again, it’s having safe access to doctors who know how to treat their patients correctly. Most women of color are afraid to go to the doctor because of the hostile experience that they have with specific providers. Once again, as the poem States at the beginning, do we have a choice? For some of us, we don’t, depending on what state or part of the world you live in. It is bigger than just abortions; It’s about having accessibility to women’s Reproductive Rights, and that includes Women’s Healthcare. That’s where this all begins and ends. What do we have to choose from if we don’t have that? We have to pick and fight for our body autonomy
