The Decision Is Mine… Or Is It?

Over time, one thing has always been up for debate: women’s rights. Men have never liked the idea of women being even remotely equal to them in any way imaginable. More importantly, when it comes to a woman’s choice, it all starts with the first essential choice of a woman deciding whether or not she should take the precaution of having a child. Birth control. It’s somehow more complicated than it ever should be. One little pill, one little injection, one little IUD. Yet, it led to more controversy for any women who chose to bet on birth control. Even the invention and upbringing of birth control were harmful to women. Something that is supposed to allow women to have the option to prevent an unwanted child. But yet people see this as wrong, some people say that birth control is a form of abortion because it stops the fetus from forming, which leads to the biggest argument of all.

Aborti n. Whether or not it is a woman’s right to choose shouldn’t even be a debate; the fetus grows in the woman’s body, and it’s a woman’s choice to keep the baby or not.  Men think they have control over women’s bodies. This may be because, for centuries, women have never truly had a place of equality among men. Men love to be in power and control of everything. For something so detrimental, it should not even be questioned on a woman’s ability of choice. Women have the decision on anything and everything they do with their bodies. For example, women get plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery all the time, and while yes people judge, many men gaze and fawn over the work done to their bodies. So, for the choice of women changing their appearance, it’s okay because men get something out of it, but for a woman to choose whether she wants an abortion or not, it’s not okay. Even if the pregnancy can cause serious injury or even death to the mother, people still view it as wrong to get an abortion to save themselves and their health. So, in the end, is it a woman’s decision? Or is it always a man’s decision? The truth is no matter how hard we fight, women will always have to fight ten times harder than men, and yet somehow, men will always find a way to try and control a woman’s choice.
