Chicanas have played a crucial role within the Chicana/o community as they have been present for every milestone that has shaped the history of Chicana/os in a positive way. As throughout history there has been many testimonios of strong Chicanas who has overcome the boundaries that were set up to ensure the downfall of women participating with the men making decisions for their futures. So, it only makes sense for Chicanas to change to perspective of women within the Lowrider community as well. Lowriding and Chicana/o culture that is undoubtable a culture that is cut from the same cloth. As these women are essentially born into the culture of Lowriding it was only a matter of time till these women became directly involved and decided to reshape the image of how a Chicana can participate within this subculture of Chicana/o culture. I think it’s important that the Chicana community maintains this form of momentum they have within the Lowrider world as it is a form of resistance towards the oppression of patriarchy. Creating another example for the world to see that these women continue to break down barriers through organization and the understanding of what must be done in order to reclaim this idea of the societal norm. To reclaim prior history to make the future better for the next generation of Chicana. By setting an example through the use of the Lowrider community, proving that a Chicana in any field of work or community she has a connection with, that she can navigate within said organization in any way she pleases.
Within time these lady lowriders will help provide context to the history books that will be written about today’s Chicanas. Adding to the timeline of all the great Chicanas that came before creating the foundation of success for the next generation of Chcianas to come. Through the use of their testimonios their stories will live on providing hope and encouragement for others. Though the cars these women drive and show off will live forever through minds of people who see these rolling works of art out on the boulevards cruising low and slow. Making a strong statement about themselves wherever they go with their cars and with the way they are dressed. In a way making a double statement by the use of the car as an attention grabber and the clothes they wear. The statement that is being made is that Chicanas are here with an aggressive tone. Yet, that tone is a direct reflection of the struggles these women have overcome to make it where they are right now!
Also, the intersectionality of a Chicana plays a factor with the success of these women. As they are forced to navigate a two-way road while operating their daily lives. With that being said they must go through a man’s world as a woman. Yet, that’s not the only issue as they must face the obstacles as a woman of color. Adding an extra layer problem that their counterparts won’t necessarily have to face since they are males. Most men are blind to the fact that our sisters within the community are forced to deal with an addition of issues that us men won’t face due to the make that this world was clearly designed by the men for the men. As men should respect the women within this community due to the battles these women have overcame throughout time that got them here.
The Lowrider culture is one of many outlets for Chicanas to express their true selves to the world. As the connection to Lowriders and our Chicana/o culture goes hand in hand. All that must be done is the true understanding of the impact to the culture by these strong women who continue to encourage positive influences through the use of their Lowriders. Further adding to the traditions of our own Chicana/o culture and histories. Continuing to stand toe to toe of the actions of colonization. These Chicanas continue to counter stories tell the false history that has been written about many marginalized communities. A sense of inspiration for many comes out of these women just cruising the streets in their cars. Though these Chicanas might not know they are inspiration for the next generation of women that will continue to break the narrative of gender roles. Being true to oneself is proof that one must understand who they are before they can move forward with reshaping the mythical norm of women’s role within society. The key part being one must understand in order to create the change!
