As a woman, it is understandable to want to have rights to your own body. The freedom to make decisions regarding one’s own body, health, and reproductive life is a fundamental human right that should not be denied to anybody, especially women. Some say that reproductive rights are essential human rights that must be protected and upheld globally. In contrast, others maintain that they are a matter of personal preference and shouldn’t be governed by international law. Women’s liberties are violated when these rights are denied, while discrimination and gender inequity are also maintained. The urgency of defending women’s reproductive rights, the reasons they need to be regarded as fundamental human rights, and the consequences of denying them will all be covered in this essay.
Women need to feel safe to make choices in their bodies. They do not need to keep having a fear of the what-ifs. Reproductive rights are essential to women’s self-determination, self-respect, and welfare. The importance of having reproductive rights has been around for years. According to the 1948 United Nations adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, “all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights”(United Nations). This suggests that women should have the autonomy to make choices regarding their reproductive health and other aspects of their bodies as human beings. All subjects related to healthcare must be a right so everyone can have a free and equal life. In most cases that is not true but we can start by letting women choose for themselves and not have others (men) do it for them.
Limiting reproductive rights, such as overturning the Roe v. Wade verdict, can have negative consequences on one’s health, including maternal mortality, a major worldwide public health issue. Denying reproductive rights won’t stop women from getting an abortion, birth control, or any of the things they need not to have a child. But the sad part is that they would be going it down low, and maybe that could be in some stranger’s house in their basement bleeding out because they didn’t know what they were doing. As stated in the journal article “Evidence shows that laws that restrict abortion do not eliminate its practice, but instead result in women having clandestine abortions, which are likely to be unsafe” (Buser, 2022). By acknowledging reproductive rights as human rights, we may aspire to lower these avoidable fatalities and guarantee women’s access to necessary medical treatment.
Overall, Reproductive rights for women are essential human rights that deserve to be acknowledged and safeguarded everywhere. We may aim to guarantee that women have access to the healthcare they require by recognizing reproductive rights as human rights. It is wrong to ban these medical procedures that can be life-saving for women, with the right tools and medicines, it can help out women to feel more safe. Women do not want other people to decide for their bodies, that is why Reproductive rights for women are a need.
