I realized more and more as the days passed by how money really is the power to anything and if they asked me again if money can buy happiness, a million times I would say Yes. Why? Because my grandma who was stuck in a hospital for days would have had better care from a doctor,just like a person who is wealthy would’ve. My experience starts at a hospital that is located in Inglewood. My grandmother who was feeling really sick was rushed to that Hospital because it was just across the street from where she lived and that was the best option, since she couldn’t take the pain anymore. The next day right in the morning I went to visit her and as I was with her I realized that the amount of care in that hospital is very very bad. What I mean by that is that they don’t care about their patients. My grandma was vomiting and as I went to look for a help there was no nurse around to provided me with help. It took me a while until I found one, and just for her to say it’s normal for her to do that. Not even did she give her a new gown, after my grandma had dirty hers. She didn’t help at all. Once the doctor walked in she was basically the same. She relied on what we knew but nothing was really wrong with my grandma according to her. We decided to make a decision and risked taking my grandma to another hospital, which was the California Hospital. A big difference between nurses walking every 2 minutes to check up on my grandma if she was doing good and they would also change her . We had more information on what she had, they had also said that she had more strokes when she was in the other hospital. Something I noticed too is that the population of patiences were mostly people of color with that being said I want to make a connection on how racism and preferences still occurs till this day. The way a doctor would treat someone of low income is completely different to the way they would treat a weather person. Connecting this to the readings, on how doctors would take advantage of native women while giving labor, they would make them sign papers. Women of course in alot of pain didn’t have the time to read the information, not only that the papers would be in english. Leaving these women with zero options and just signing it the excuse was so “they could get better” and what they would do was tight there tubes. By all I just want to express how racism and unfairness even occurs in health, where these people who work are supposed to help and save people but no they choose who to save and who to leave suffer, the sad reality of my opinion.
